Hearing Aid Prices

Whether you’ve just been told it’s time for hearing aids or you’re looking to upgrade your current pair, the question of cost usually comes to mind. While it may be tempting to compare prices, it’s essential to consider the various features and inclusions that determine the cost of hearing aids.

Why Hearing Aid Prices Vary

The price of hearing aids in Australia can vary significantly depending on the level of technology and features; the reputation and brand of the manufacturer; the warranties and the bundled services included, such as comprehensive, best practice fitting, adjustments and ongoing support.

Technology Levels and Hearing Aid Prices

Hearing aids come in a range of technology levels, each designed to cater for different listening needs, acoustic environments and lifestyles. From entry to premium, each level offers varying features and pricing options to suit individual requirements and budgets. Hearing aids with more advanced features are more expensive since they offer greater benefits and improved performance than entry or basic models.

Entry/Basic level technology:

Hearing aids in these levels are designed for conversations in a quiet environment with one or two speakers. However, they will struggle in noisy settings. Features can include bluetooth streaming for phone calls and using an App on your phone to control the hearing aid volume and program. These hearing aids are usually subsidised under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program for eligible individuals, such as those receiving the aged pension, NDIS, or disability pension.

Mid-Range technology:

The computer chip and microphones in these hearing aids work harder and smarter to tackle background noise. They excel in small group listening environments with 3-5 people. Advanced technology and artificial intelligence enable automatic programs that analyse background noise and switch to optimal modes. Users tend to adjust the volume less often. These hearing aids are often rechargeable and are bluetooth to allow direct streaming from a mobile phone or tablet.

Advanced/Premium technology:

This technology offers cutting-edge innovation, prioritising both speech and music for enhanced enjoyment. This level excels in challenging listening environments, including background noise, echo, and wind providing 360-degree hearing. With “set and forget” functionality, premium hearing aids effortlessly capture sounds, eliminating manual volume adjustments. They’re ideal for individuals with active lifestyles, such as professionals with diverse listening demands and those with busy social lives.
