Promote hearing health and well-being
Victorian Hearing is a locally owned and run, proudly independent audiology practice. Whilst we are focused on our clients, we see ourselves as part of our clinics’ local communities. We believe that as a local business, we should support our community to promote hearing health and well-being and support early-career audiologists. We do this in various ways.
Victorian Hearing provides hearing health education sessions to various local clubs, including Probus, Rotary, Bowls, and Community Centres. In these sessions, we provide information about how we hear, how to care for our ears, signs of difficulties hearing, the effects of an untreated hearing loss and what to do if you think you or a loved one has a hearing loss. Through these sessions, we empower people to understand their hearing health and take care of it.

There is a high rate of hearing loss in aged care centres. However, many of the residents at these centres struggle to manage and look after their hearing aids independently. This can leave these residents feeling isolated, significantly affecting their quality of life. Victorian Hearing runs hearing health education sessions incorporating tips for communicating with people with hearing loss and training sessions on how aged care staff can support residents in managing and maintaining their hearing aids. This enables residents to use their hearing aids effectively, allowing them to communicate with the staff, family, and other loved ones and significantly improve their quality of life.

At Victorian Hearing, we know there is much more to community and well-being than hearing. This is why we sponsor local clubs such as the Sandringham Bowls Club, the Hampton Bowls Club, and the Hampton Cricket Club. By supporting these clubs, we support the people in our community and their well-being.

Donations of Second-Hand Hearing Aids
In some parts of the world, there is minimal access to hearing aids and hearing services. Due to untreated hearing loss, these adults and children are isolated and struggle to learn, work, and contribute to their communities. Victorian Hearing is a proud supporter of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, who provide hearing aids and services to people in underprivileged communities worldwide. We do this by donating used hearing aids to the Starkey Hearing Foundation. In 2018, Nicole donated her time and expertise to go on a ‘Starkey Mission’ to the Philippines where she helped provide hearing services and fit hearing aids to those in need. Nicole describes it as both a life changing experience and career highlight. If you would like to read more about the Starkey Hearing Foundation, you can visit their website. If you have old hearing aids at home that are no longer being used, please drop them off at any of our clinics, and we will arrange their donation to the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

Audiology Education
At Victorian Hearing, we know that the education of the next generation of Audiologists needs to include real-life experience. To support this, in 2023 and 2024, Nicole Bowden, our principal audiologist and manager, accepted an invitation to participate in a panel discussion with audiology students at LaTrobe University on ‘Ethical Business Practices in Audiology.’ Ethical practices are essential to who we are at Victorian Hearing, and we were happy to share our experiences and thoughts on this critical topic.
Supporting Early Career Audiologists
Early career audiologists require extra support when establishing their careers and shaping the audiologists they will be. Audiology Australia regularly runs the InspirED Early Career Audiologist Conference, which is designed to provide students, interns, and early career audiologists with an opportunity to learn from, engage with, and collaborate with a diverse range of clinical and industry leaders. Several Victorian Hearing audiologists have spoken at these conferences to share their knowledge and experience. Our audiologists are also part of the Melbourne University Alumni industry mentoring programs, assisting audiology students with the transition between studying and entering the workforce.
