Tinnitus Management
Hissing, buzzing, roaring
What are the signs?
Persistent sound when no external sound is present.
Tinnitus is a condition that affects the auditory system, causing sufferers to hear a persistent sound when no external sound is present. Because of its subjective nature, the perceived sound can differ between sufferers. While often characterised as an unpleasant ringing in the ears, tinnitus symptoms have also been described by those experiencing it as a hissing, buzzing, whistling and roaring, leading many to seek tinnitus retraining therapy in Melbourne from a specialist clinic.
The First Signs
The first (and subsequent) tinnitus symptoms can include:
- Ringing, pulsating, buzzing, whistling or hissing in the ears
- Losses in concentration
- Difficulty sleeping
- Sensation of fullness in the ears
- Stress
- Dizziness
- Headaches
HOW DO YOU TEST FOR TINNITUS?
If you’re affected by tinnitus, or suspect you may be suffering from it, Victorian Hearing can help. We provide patients with a comprehensive tinnitus treatment and management program, designed to educate sufferers of all aspects of the condition. During the 90 min program at our Melbourne clinic, our friendly and experienced audiologists will establish a full case history by asking relevant questions. We’ll then conduct a full diagnostic hearing test to determine the extent of your tinnitus symptoms, before trying to diagnose the pitch and volume of the sound that you’re experiencing. After testing is complete, we’ll discuss the results with you and suggest tinnitus therapy options.
Can You Cure Tinnitus?
While there is currently no cure for tinnitus, meaningful relief is absolutely possible. Many people experience a significant improvement in their comfort, focus and overall quality of life with the right support.
At Victorian Hearing, our audiologists provide evidence-based strategies to help you understand and manage tinnitus effectively. Tinnitus often originates from changes in the sound-sensitive cells of the cochlea (the hearing organ inside the inner ear). Protecting your hearing can help prevent further irritation.
Victorian Hearing’s
Tinnitus Management Program with Brainwave TRx
Through our partnership with Dr Paul Davis at Tinnitus Telecare, we are pleased to offer Brainwave TRx, an innovative Australian-developed therapy that supports the brain’s natural ability to adapt and settle its response to tinnitus. While it is not a cure, many people find that incorporating Brainwave TRx alongside our tailored management strategies enhances their sense of control and improves overall comfort.
Our goal is to guide you toward clearer understanding, greater confidence, and a more manageable experience with tinnitus.
How It Works
Our program begins with a two-hour comprehensive evaluation of your hearing and tinnitus. During this session, our expert audiologists provide detailed insights into your specific condition, explaining the hearing loss (if present) and the neurophysiological basis of tinnitus-related distress. We’ll explore treatment options tailored to your needs, including strategies to manage tinnitus effectively in your daily life.
Safe, Supportive Version
With Brainwave TRx, we offer a gentle, sound-based therapy designed to support the brain’s ability to settle its response to tinnitus over time. This approach can help reduce the level of attention and emotional reactivity associated with tinnitus, making it feel less intrusive for many people.
Our team develops an individualised plan based on your hearing and tinnitus profile, integrating Brainwave TRx with proven tinnitus management strategies. While results vary, many clients report improved comfort, reduced distress, and a greater sense of control in their day-to-day lives.
Benefits of Brainwave TRx
- By listening to Brainwave TRx for just a few hours each day, most users notice improvements within weeks. Consistent use can lead to:
- Reduced awareness of tinnitus throughout the day
- A decrease in the frequency, pitch, or volume of the ringing
- Improved sleep quality and faster time to fall asleep
- Less disruption to daily life and emotional well-being
- Reduced sensitivity to loud sounds
These changes can significantly lessen the burden of tinnitus, restoring relaxation, control, and an improved sense of well-being.
