Victorian Hearing’s Optimised Hearing Aid Fitting Experience
At Victorian Hearing, we believe that hearing is more than just sound—it’s about fuelling connection, building relationships, and understanding ways to improve your quality of life. As an independent audiology clinic, we are not governed by any hearing aid manufacturer as we are not part of a chain. Instead, we’re dedicated to providing personalised care tailored to your unique hearing needs.
When it comes to hearing aids, the fitting process is crucial to ensure maximum benefit, usability, and comfort. That is why we go above and beyond to offer a comprehensive and optimised fitting experience, with Real Ear Measurements and a special focus on Live Speech
Mapping (LSM) technology
What exactly is Live Speech Mapping, and why is it important?
Live Speech Mapping is a cutting-edge technique that allows us to fine-tune your hearing aids in real-time using real speech as a reference. By placing a small, thin tube at the entrance of your ear canal, we can measure exactly what level of sound is coming out of the hearing aid and observe how sounds travel through your unique ear anatomy. Since each person’s ear canal can vary in structure, even between the left and right ears, this personalised approach ensures precise adjustments tailored to your individual preferences and needs. At Victorian Hearing, we believe this method is critical for achieving the highest quality sound tailored to your ear and listening requirements.
Benefits of Live Speech Mapping
- Personalisation: No two ears are alike, and neither are two hearing aid fittings. With Live Speech Mapping, we can tailor the settings of your hearing aids to match your unique hearing profile, ensuring a personalised listening experience like never before.
- Verification: Historically, traditional fitting methods rely on the person’s subjective feedback alone to the audiologist, which can sometimes be difficult, as it’s hard to put into words how a sound or series of speech words appear ‘odd’ or ‘off’. Live Speech Mapping, on the other hand, provides objective, real-time data to verify that your hearing aids are performing optimally in various listening environments. This will give you the confidence that we have done our best to maximise the ability and performance of your hearing aid. This verification process can also be handy for individuals that are long time users of a particular brand of hearing aids. Our audiologists can conduct these tests on your existing hearing aid and match your new technology similarly, ensuring that the sound quality remains familiar to your ears and brain. When we listen through digital technology, our brain adapts to a particular sound profile. Our audiologists understand this and apply the data to your new fittings accordingly.
- Transparency: We believe in transparency every step of the way. With Live Speech Mapping, you can see exactly how your hearing aids are performing. This empowers you to take an active role in your hearing healthcare journey and gives you confidence in your audiologists.
Comprehensive Hearing Aid Fitting Experience
Our commitment to your hearing doesn’t stop there. Here’s what you can expect from our comprehensive fitting process:
- Comprehensive Assessment: We start by conducting a thorough assessment of your hearing health, which includes discussing your lifestyle, communication needs, and any specific concerns you may have. As a result, we often receive requests from Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Specialists to conduct hearing assessments, as they know we have state of the art facilities and rigorous testing protocols.
- Customisation: Using the latest technology and techniques, we’ll customise your hearing aids to meet your unique hearing needs and preferences, ensuring maximum comfort and effectiveness. The hearing aid fitting appointment is one hour to tailor the devices and show you how to best look after and maintain the hearing aids. We encourage you to bring a significant other into the consultation so that they too can support you during your hearing journey.
- Education and Support: We take the time to educate you on how to use and care for your hearing aids long term; provide 12 month’s of touch point appointments and recommend annual audiological reviews. We are here to provide ongoing support and our front of house staff are well trained in basic repairs and troubleshooting. Our whole team is dedicated in keeping you on the air and listening well to live well.
Ultimately, at Victorian Hearing we’re not just here to provide you with a product, we’re here to partner with you on your journey to better hearing, celebrating the highlights and working together through difficult times. Our long-term clients will agree that we care deeply and go above and beyond to champion your best hearing opportunities.
